Shred Gives back at Mount Hood
For some of our international shredders who may not know, Mount Hood in Oregon, USA is the place to ski during the summer months. Whether you’re park and pipe, free ski or are training for the race season, this is the place to be in the summer.
And to give back to the community up there, Shred represented through Speedy’s and Fuxi Racing. We recently caught up with Mark Syrovatka a friend who was at the event…
Me: Tell me more about Speedy/Fuxi Raffle. What is this all about? Can you provide background?
MS: The point for both events was for kids to be able to meet the man behind the Shred product, our main mascot, Ted Ligety. Kids, and adults were able to get free signed posters from their national ski hero, along with chances to win free Shred products; such as Tee’s, belts, and goggles.
Me: Who attends? What age?
MS: Kids and adults of all ages. Pretty much every camp on the mountain attended either event. Also during Fuxi’s raffle Phil Marhe showed his face, and got some praise from the older crowd. Speedy also had a young local guitarist show up to play some music for us.
Me: Why?
MS: The main reason was to give something special to our customers.
Me: What was the feedback?
MS: The feedback was very positive, they especially loved our very modern styled posters, wether it was Ted, Romain, or Resi.
Me: Was there any product that stood out as a fan favorite?
MS: Much praise for the new Tee designs, especially at Fuxi’s raffle. And our new “Livestrong” type bracelets were a hit. During Fuxi’s raffle, kids would stay a full 2 hour’s to get the chance to win a prize.
Me: What were some of the questions the kids asked Ligety?
MS: We held some Q&A’s with Ted. Many question’s were pertinent to skiing: like what was his favorite event (Slalom or Super G). Or how fast he got his Audi going in Monaco. We actually asked some trivia questions for prizes.
Me: Were they awestruck? Starstruck?
MS: Yes, but Ted was very humble and comfortable with the crowd, some girls even got some Ted ‘mustaches’. Ted was fashionably late, which got the crowd excited, but the organizer some wrinkles.
